Community Participation and Events
The Early Years to the Current Year 2007
The Merchants Association and the Property Management of the Carlmont Village Shopping Center have supported the community since the mid 1980’s when MDA carnival and chili cook off’s were held donating to “Jerry’s Kids” (Muscular Dystrophy Cure-a-thon). In the early 1990’s our focus changed, and continues to this day, to support local community organizations involving children in Belmont including Belmont Safety in Schools. Currently we are in partnership with the Belmont Chamber of Commerce through the Art’s in Education Fund, in the Save the Music Program. This fund focuses on bringing music back into the local public schools, elementary through high school.
Adopt-A-School
Throughout the years since 1988 a partnership between the merchants and Central Elementary School has enriched both the merchants and students while working together during special events.
Art Show
Late March we host an annual art show sponsored by Pacific Fine Arts. This is the first art show of the season in the bay area.
Blood Drive
The blood drive is held four times a year; March, June, September, & December. The Blood Centers of the Pacific provides a van, which parks adjacent to Lunardi’s Market.
Easter Events
Spring brings two Easter events. The first event is the Coloring Contest where all participants get a free ice cream cone from Baskin & Robbins. The second event is the Easter Egg Hunt for children 9 years old and younger. The children find prizes and candy hidden by the merchants.
Car Show
The annual car show known as “Fenders & Fathers” is held the day before Father’s Day. This event sponsored by the merchants, property management, and the Belmont Chamber of Commerce includes vintage cars, live music, raffle, food and fun. All the proceeds go to Arts in Education in the Belmont Chamber of Commerce fund.
Twin Pines Event
In the fall we are involved with both contribution and participation with the City of Belmont and the Belmont Chamber annual event in Twin Pines Park.
Halloween Parade
The Halloween Parade has been an annual event that has continued since the 1970’s. This gives a chance for all ages (children and adults) to dress up in costume and to trick or treat with the merchants in a safe and fun environment.
Tree Lighting of The City of Belmont Tree
The lighting of the Christmas tree and the caroling by children represented by local public and private schools is a continuing tradition since 1974 where the tree was proclaimed the city’s official Christmas tree November 10, 1975. We sponsor this event and give a donation as a thank you to the schools that participate in the tree lighting known as “The City of Belmont Tree”. The festivities include an arts and craft boutique with Santa mingling amongst the crowd giving candy to the children. This is our way of sharing the spirit of giving during the holiday season.
Belmont Chamber Gala
In December at the annual Belmont Chamber Gala we provide and donate a decorated Christmas tree and presents, where participants bid at an auction for the tree where proceeds are donated to the charity represented through the Belmont Chamber of Commerce.
